Saying goodbye

We had to say goodbye on Friday to our four baby chicks. We know they will have a good life at the farm and will enjoy having more space to run around and be chickens! We hope to see pictures of them at their new home soon.

The day we have all waited for

On Thursday afternoon we spent some time playing with our new baby chicks.  We created a circle so they could not escape.  When the chicks came close by we were able to use one finger to pet them.   Some even jumped into our hands and laps!  It is going to be hard sending them back to the farm on Friday.

Three's Company

Angry Taco and Mr. Jumperoni enjoying some fresh water while their feathers continue to dry.  The marbles are placed in their water bowl so they can't tip it over.

Almost out!

Here is a picture of Mr. Jumperoni hatching from his egg.  He must have a very strong egg tooth!
You can also see Fluffy has created a small hole using her egg tooth!

Welcome to the world...

Angry Taco!
It took nearly 12 hours for our first chick to hatch out of its egg. The students voted on the name Angry Taco! We will leave the chick in the incubator for a few hours to allow its feathers to dry.  We are very excited for Angry Taco!

Hatch Day!

On May 1st we started to hear a soft peep coming from the incubator.  When we looked in we saw a few of the eggs rocking back and forth.  We knew that soon we would see a crack.  After lunch we checked on the eggs and this is what we saw...

The chicks were using their egg tooth to begin to emerge from the egg. Although there was a crack we knew that it would take a lot of hard work from the chick before it hatched!
